County Seeks Applications for 2027 Lodging Tax Funds

OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) is accepting applications for qualified projects occurring in Thurston County in 2027.  LTAC is expecting to distribute approximately $250,000 to local applicants in 2027.

The Lodging Tax is a sales tax authorized by Chapter 67.28 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), officially titled “Public Stadium, Convention, Arts and Tourism Facilities.” The law authorizes Washington cities and counties to fund local tourism, culture and community facilities by collecting revenue from overnight stays at lodging establishments such as a hotel, motel, bed and breakfast facilities, and campgrounds.

Lodging Tax funds must be reinvested to promote tourism events, locations, and activities for the purpose of attracting visitors to this area. Lodging tax revenue may also be used to pay for capital and/or operating costs for some tourism-related facilities, the operation of visitor/convention agencies, and the operation and marketing of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists.

Applications, contact and general information on the current LTAC funding cycle are available on the County’s LTAC webpage. Applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, December 24, 2026, at 5 p.m. via email to ellen.massey@co.thurston.wa.us or mailed to Thurston County, ATTN. Ellen Massey 3000 Pacific Avenue SE, Olympia, WA 98501.

LTAC will review proposals on January 8, and January 22, 2027. Meetings to review applications are open to the public and will take place in the Thurston County Atrium Building, Room 110, and virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Last year, Thurston County awarded funds to Hands on Children’s Museum, the Regional Athletic Complex, and the Washington Senior Games, among others. The full list is available on the County’s LTAC webpage.
