“One More Stop” Emphasis Patrol Honors Fallen WSP Trooper Christopher Gadd
Olympia, WA — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) jointly announce the annual “One More Stop” emphasis patrol in honor of fallen WSP Trooper Christopher Gadd, badge #927.
The emphasis patrols will take place from Friday, September 25, through Sunday, September 27, with law enforcement agencies across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho conducting traffic enforcement in Trooper Gadd’s honor.
Trooper Gadd was killed after being struck by an impaired driver on Interstate 5 just north of Marysville on March 2, 2024. Prior to the tragic incident, Trooper Gadd had messaged to his detachment members he was going to meet up with them for break after “One More Stop.”
After sending the message, Trooper Gadd’s dedication to the citizens of Snohomish County and Washington State was put on display. Trooper Gadd pulled to the shoulder of I-5 just north of his detachment office with the intent of seeking out one more speeding driver, one more potential impaired driver – to make one more contact to prevent a future tragedy. It was then that an impaired driver traveling over 100 mph crashed into the back of Trooper Gadd’s patrol car.
“Not a day goes by that we don’t feel the loss of Trooper Christopher Gadd,” said Chief John R. Batiste, Washington State Patrol. “In his honor, law enforcement agencies across multiple states are working together to prevent impaired driving and remind drivers that getting home safely starts with making the right choice before they get behind the wheel.”
“Trooper Gadd dedicated his career to protecting people on Washington’s roads, and we honor that commitment by working together to prevent the dangerous driving behaviors that put everyone at risk,” said Shelly Baldwin, Director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. “Every driver has a role to play. Slow down, drive sober, and give law enforcement officers the space they need to do their jobs safely. One more safe choice can make a difference.”
In the spirit of Trooper Gadd’s strong work ethic and dedication, the multistate emphasis will have officers working together to conduct those traffic stops in his honor. These patrols reinforce the shared mission of reducing dangerous driving behaviors to save the lives of those traveling on our roadways.
